Remember when your parents said, “do as I say and not as I do”, well that’s the best example of hypocrisy. This website is dedicated to showing that same kind of hypocrisy in our past and current politics.

Everyone knows that there are different rules in the United States depending on your race, gender, values and religious beliefs.  There are various documents throughout our history that define or state that all men (not women) are created equal, and yet it is hard to get equality for different members of our society no matter how many laws are passed.

Hypocrisy is defined as having pretense, and the practice of having moral standards and/or beliefs to which a person’s behavior does not conform. A campaigning politician may say that they will do everything for Black and Latin Americans.  They believe they are good people, and “these people” will benefit when their particular political party is elected.   As soon as the election is over, Black and Brown Americans are once again painted as the face of poverty, crime, welfare and completely forgotten.

Candidates may claim they have a belief in fair and low-income housing for all, but when it comes down to it, the old “not in my backyard” attitude is deployed.

Politicians like to posture and even lie to get their points across.

Voters should be aware and believe that politics is fundamentally a most insincere and deceptive profession.  It's a game of power much like a game of chess.  Some politicians are only after their own notoriety and monetary gain. Sure, some choose this profession because they sincerely care and want to protect the "American Way" and will staunchly defend human rights and democracy, but even they can become cynical when faced with Washington D.C. congressional and senatorial road blocks and failed legislature.

American political journalist Michael Gerson for the Washington Post, says that political hypocrisy is "the conscious use of a mask to fool the public and gain political benefit".
